MG QS to enter fiercely competitive seven-seat SUV segment priced from less than $50K

15 May 2025

MG MOTOR has priced its keenly anticipated QS seven-seat SUV for the Australian market, the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Kluger rival “available soon” with an introductory drive-away price of $46,990.

Available in entry Excite and high-grade Essence trims, the MG QS is for now powered exclusively by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine offering 153kW/360Nm and paired with a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel consumption for the front-wheel drive Excite model is listed at 8.4 litres per 100km on the combined cycle with the optional all-wheel-drive Essence using 8.8L/100km.

A plug-in hybrid alternative is expected to join the range at a later date.

Introduced at the recent Melbourne Motor Show, the MG QS measures 4983mm in length, 1967mm in width, and 1778mm in height with all models capable of towing up to 2000kg (braked). Cargo space is listed at 203 litres in seven-seat mode, 517 litres in five-seat mode, and 1052 litres all told.

In terms of standard equipment, the MG QS Excite (from $46,990 d/a) offers 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED lighting front and rear, a cooled glovebox, cloth upholstery, eight-way powered front seat adjustment, keyless entry and ignition, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, LED ambient cabin lighting, a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails in a silver finish, tri-zone climate control, and woodgrain interior ornamentation.

Infotainment and connectivity features include dual 12.3-inch instrumentation and infotainment screens, AM/FM/DAB+ radio reception, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, native satellite navigation, eight-speaker sound, and MG iSmart phone app connectivity with free access for the first 12 months of ownership.

Safety inclusions see the MG QS Excite arrive as standard with a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, child-seat anchorages (two ISOFIX and three top-tether), door exit warning, driver monitoring system, lane centring assist, lane change assist, lane keep assist, rear collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert with braking function, rear parking sensors, seven airbags, traffic sign recognition with speed limiter function, and tyre pressure monitoring.

Incremental to those features we find the Excite AWD grade (from $50,990 d/a) adding 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive damping, auto high beam, auto dimming rear-view mirror, driver seat memory function, front parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats, LED front fog lights, perforated leather upholstery, wireless phone charging pad, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.

The flagship model is available optionally with Stone coloured leather upholstery for $700.

All model grades of the MG QS are offered in a choice of five paint finishes, with Pearl White the only no-cost option. Black Pearl, Camden Grey, Cashmere Silver, and Regency Green attract an $800 surcharge.

“It is very exciting for MG to launch our first seven-seat SUV in Australia,” said MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao.

“People have been asking us when we would be bringing a large SUV to Australia, and it is exciting to confirm the QS is just weeks away.

“For larger families, or multi-generation families, the extra space the QS offers will be loved. Families will be able to load up the QS, fitting more into everyday as they rush to pick up the kids, head to weekend sports and drop friends home.

“The QS is an important model in MG’s continued growth in Australia. The features included in both variants are of a premium standard and consumers will get more for their money.

“Once again, we’re proud to deliver exceptional value for Australian motorists. MG is committed to this, and you’ll continue to see this in the other exciting models we’ll be launching in Australia this year.”

Mr Ciao says the QS is available to order now with first customer deliveries set to commence in the coming months.
