The Australian government’s ROVER database notes approval for the vehicle’s sale, the battery electric version of the MG U9 diesel, already on sale locally, to be powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration offering a total system output of 325kW.
With identical measurements to the diesel-powered model, the MG U9 EV is 5500mm in length, 1997mm in width, and 1860mm in height, riding on a wheelbase of 3300mm and with 230mm of ground clearance.
While MG Motor Australia is yet to confirm an official on-sale date for the U9 EV – or official pricing and specifications – the ROVER database notes a tare mass of 2815kg and braked towing capacity of 3500kg, bringing the model in line with its diesel-powered sibling (as outlined in the graph below).
By way of reference, the 2026 MG U9 diesel range is priced from $52,990.
Whether the addition of an electric variant will assist MG Motor Australia in growing sales of its U9 range remains to be seen.
Year-to-date sales figures show just 416 registrations for the MG U9, well behind four-wheel drive segment rivals that include the Ford Ranger (7362), Toyota HiLux (5315), Mitsubishi Triton (3154), Isuzu D-Max (2992), and others.
