News - BYDBYD simplifies Aussie warranty conditionsImproved and back-dated six-year warranty offer applied to all vehicles sold from August 202215 Apr 2025 By MATT BROGAN GROWING electric vehicle importer BYD has improved and backdated its new car warranty offer.
In marking the sale of its 40,000th vehicle in Australia, the Chinse importer confirmed an across-the-board six-year/150,000km vehicle- and eight-year/160,000 high-voltage battery warranty on all models sold.
While the “bumper-to-bumper” warranty offer is applied retrospectively to all vehicles delivered since August 2022, it is important to note that customers who have previously experienced out-of-pocket claim expenses will not be reimbursed.
The brand’s warranty coverage previously excluded some parts, with certain components covered independently of the vehicle for three- or four years only. Items including touchscreens, lights, and shock adsorbers were covered independently of the vehicle warranty, resulting in confusion and distrust among BYD customers.
BYD importer EVDirect says the newly implemented warranty aims to give Australian BYD owners “added confidence” in its growing product line-up.
“BYD’s advanced technology continues to attract attention from both consumers and the wider industry,” said EVDirect chief executive officer David Smitherman.
“The blade battery represents safety and performance, and we’re thrilled to back the vehicles with an enhanced consumer warranty.”
