Limited edition trio sweetens ‘Benz SUV line-up

THREE new limited-edition Mercedes-Benz SUVs are now available in the petrol powered AMG Line Plus Edition GLE 450 4Matic Coupe (from$163,300 +ORC), diesel powered Edition 7 GLE 300 d 4Matic (from $141,800 +ORC), and diesel powered Edition 7 GLS 450 d 4Matic (from $171,000 +ORC).

Mercedes-Benz says the trio enhance its large SUV range, enticing buyers with a sporty look and feel on the Coupe and a combination of space and style in the “sleek” wagons.

Starting with the AMG Line Plus Edition GLE 450 Coupe we find a vehicle for buyers who value style and aesthetics, in this case accentuated by a number of sporty touches.

Externally, the model flaunts a striking stance rolling on 22-inch AMG five twin-spoke alloy wheels in black with an AMG spoiler lip at the back to complement the standard fitted Night Package (darkened) design elements.

The muscular looking SUV rocks an elegant and durable Artico/Microcut upholstery in black, while ride control is by an Airmatic package air suspension with adaptive damping.

Other kit is lifted from the regular GLE 450 4Matic Coupe standard features list and includes AMG Line Interior and Exterior with multifunction sports steering wheel, AMG floor mats, seats with four-way lumbar support, interior chrome package, AMG body styling and braking system with larger brake discs on the front axle.

Inside are heated seats, climate control, heat-insulating dark tinted glass and ambient lighting. Also featured is smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, wireless charging for mobile devices in the front and the Parking Package with 360-degree camera, in addition to a full suite of driver assistance systems.

Moving to the Edition 7 variants we note a focus on space, comfort and style obviously targeting growing families… with busy weekly schedules.

The GLE 300 d 4Matic SUV Edition 7 is equipped with third row seating and electric rear seat adjustment in the second row as standard, with rear seats being heated.

Dedicated 21-inch AMG alloys and heat insulated dark tinted glass add a sporty appearance.

The model’s standard kit is designed for comfort with MBUX Augmented Reality navigation, Burmester surround sound system, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and USB ports in the rear with high voltage charging.

The larger GLS 450 d Edition 7 model gains 21-inch five -triple-spoke light alloy wheels for what Mercedes-Benz describes as “an overall sleeker-looking appearance.”

Comfort and tech are prioritised inside exemplified in the multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather, velour floors mats, seats with four -way lumbar support and the Advanced Plus Package featuring climatised front seats, head-up display, power closing doors, MBUX Augmented Reality, wireless charging system for mobile devices and Burmester surround sound system.

The model also scores climate control, heat-insulating tinted glass, and a panoramic sunroof.

Both Edition 7 models are equipped with an extensive suite of driver assistance systems, such as Blind Spot Assist, Exit Warning Assistant, Traffic Sign Recognition, Active Traffic-Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Distance Distronic.

Mercedes-Benz offers a towbar package for both the GLE and GLS Edition 7 models at $3000.
