New models - Mazda - CX-60 - G25Mazda confident G25 variant can grow CX-60 salesCheaper 2.5-litre CX-60 to account for one-third of model sales, says Mazda Australia22 Oct 2025 By MATT BROGAN MAZDA Australia has officially launched its 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol powered CX-60 into local showrooms this week, the ‘G25’ entry model expected to prove the strongest seller of a range which retails just more than 420 units per month.
The CX-60 G25 line-up is expected to form 34 per cent of the overall sales mix moving forward, leaving 29 per cent of the sales mix to G40e petrol variants, 17 per cent to D50 diesel variants, and the remaining 20 per cent to the P50e plug-in hybrid.
“The G25 2.5-litre powertrain is a smooth, reliable, and dependable engine,” explained Mazda Australia senior public relations specialist Alex Fisk.
“The G25 is synonymous and in many ways ubiquitous with Mazda in Australia. Since 2012, it has powered eight different models in the Mazda range and accounted for roughly 407,000 sales in that time.
“Now, as we strive to give customers genuine value for money, we are again offering this engine with an introductory price of $47,990 driveaway … that is $4000 cheaper than the equivalent G40 petrol and $8000 cheaper than the D50 diesel.
The CX-60 G25 is available across three trim grades – pure, Evolve, and Touring. The 2.5-litre engine produces 138kW of power at 6000rpm and 250Nm of torque at 3000rpm.
Fuel consumption is listed at 7.5 litres per 100km on the combined cycle with accompanying CO2 emissions of 173 grams per kilometre.
As elsewhere in the line-up, the rear-wheel drive CX-60 G25 is equipped exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Standard kit for the CX-60 G25 Pure ($47,990 d/a) includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, autonomous emergency braking, 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, and satellite navigation.
While Pure customers still enjoy a leather steering wheel and gear shifter, rear air vents and an eight-speaker stereo, the variant’s base model status is given away by manually adjusted cloth seats and hard upper door skins.
National drive-away pricing is not offered on the other trims.
The second-tier CX-60 G25 Evolve is priced at $49,240 + on-road costs and adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, black vinyl upholstery, a wireless device charger, power tailgate, upgraded adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, front cross-traffic alert, and a driver monitor.
From there it is a $3000 step to the G25 Touring ($52,240 + ORC), which supplements the spec’ with genuine black leather upholstery, heated and powered front seats (with driver’s memory), memory for the mirrors, and an LED-lit rear console.
GT and Azami grades, which are available on each of the other engines (from $64,240 + ORC and $68,440 + ORC respectively), are not offered in combination with the G25 powertrain.
Options are limited to paint colour, with Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, Platinum Quartz, Sonic Silver and Zircon Sand attracting no penalty while Rhodium White, Soul Red Crystal and Machine Grey attract an additional fee.
Mazda’s five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty continues to apply.
“In terms of the sales mix, this compelling value proposition is expected to lead the uptake of the CX-60 range with approximately 34 per cent of sales,” Mr Fisk explained.
“The G25 engine not only gives (our CX-60) customers more choice and opportunity within the Mazda large platform range, it also adds another alternative to the CX-5 ahead of the new model’s arrival next year.
“We know that some customers crave the performance of the inline sixes, or the ultra-efficiency of the plug-in hybrid. (But) there are also many customers who want the CX-60 for its extra space and updated infotainment over the current CX-5.
“They are also not the type of customers who are ready yet for the transition to a plug-in hybrid, nor do they need the reassurance of an all-wheel drive. This is where the G25 comes into its own … offering a compelling price point and the reassurance of a tried and tested, familiar engine,” he concluded.
