New models - Hyundai - KonaHyundai shakes up its Kona SUV line-upTurbo-petrol Kona axed as new Elite grades join Hyundai’s small SUV range24 Jul 2025 By MATT BROGAN HYUNDAI has cut all turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol variants from its Kona range, leaving the line-up without an all-wheel drive offering.
The slow-selling driveline has been dropped in favour of front-wheel drive normally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and hybridised 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol drivelines, which join new ‘Elite’ grades in the Kona range.
Now available from $32,700 plus on-road costs – $200 more than before – the Kona range now commences with the ‘Kona’ grade front-wheel drive automatic with 2.0-litre petrol power ahead of Elite, N-Line, and Premium variants (see full pricing below).
Changes within the line-up see 17-inch wheels in place of 18-inch offerings on the base grade, while the Elite brings 18-inch alloy wheels, black leather-accented upholstery, heated and power adjustable front seats, shift-by-wire gear selector, rear privacy glass, and rain-sensing wipers to the kit list.
Premium grades now include a previously optional panoramic sunroof as standard but face a price increase of $2200 over the 2025 model.
The MY26 Kona Premium further offers highlights that include cloth-knit headlining, and optional Light Shale Grey or Sage Green leather upholstery (+$295) over regular black.
Metallic paint remains a $595 option across the range.
“We are delighted to introduce the updated and improved 2026 Kona range, with the new Elite model offering a highly appealing mid-level option,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Don Romano.
“The Kona is the market-leading small SUV and we are confident the 2026 range will deliver even better value and choice to Australian buyers.”
The 2026 Hyundai Kona will be available locally from next month (August).
