Future models - Genesis - GV60 - MagmaGenesis fires across AMG bowsOrange-hot Magma sub-brand opens with sizzling SUV and race-track focused GT24 Nov 2025 By NEIL DOWLING FUTURE Genesis models will champion the ‘luxury high performance’ mantle as the brand unveils its vision through the next 10 years.
Unveiled in France last week, the GV60 Magma is Genesis’ first production model wearing the Magma name designed specifically as its new halo line of cars, targeting the premium Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M sub-brands.
The GV60 Magma and Magma GT Concept – which has aspirations in the GT race category – were shown at a world premiere day at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France.
The GV60 Magma, which the brand said represents the philosophy and technological vision that will define future Magma models, follows a string of teaser cars including the GV80 Coupe Concept, X Gran Berlinetta Concept and G80 Magma Special.
At the reveal, Genesis also said it would solidify its position as a true luxury brand “by embodying the concept of ‘luxury High performance’, a seamless fusion of refined elegance and superior performance”.
Hyundai Motor Company and Genesis president and CEO, Jose Munoz, said Genesis “achieved one million global sales faster than any luxury marque in history”.
“Magma represents our declaration that the next 10 years will be even more significant,” he said.
“We're not just building high-performance vehicles; we're redefining what a luxury high-performance brand can be when Korean innovation meets global ambition.
The GV60 Magma is a full electric, two-motor, all-wheel drive “steroid” version of the GV60 EV SUV. It has up to 478kW/790Nm, a significant boost from the standard model’s 360kW/700Nm, which gives it a top speed of 264km/h and 0-100km/h dash of 3.4 seconds and 0-200km/h in 10.9 seconds (with launch control and boost mode).
Genesis said the GV60 Magma’s launch control delivers optimal starting torque from a standstill, enabling rapid and responsive acceleration at launch.
It has three drive modes: Sprint, GT, and MY. In MY Mode, drivers can customise settings for the functions including the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), and electronic stability control (ESC).
Further separating it from the current GV60, the suspension system has been recalibrated with changes to the roll centre and geometry. It also features electronic control suspension (ECS) and ‘end-of-travel’ (EoT) control systems that balance cornering stability and ride comfort.
Hydro G-Bushings in the front suspension and dual-layer bushings in the rear crossmember effectively minimise vibrations and impacts.
The braking system is upgraded with front monoblock callipers and large-diameter discs, optimised for the 21-inch wheels, and rear brakes featuring GG-rated high-friction materials, enhancing overall braking performance.
Genesis said that despite riding on wide tyres, the GV60 Magma “maintains the serene cabin quietness expected of a luxury high-performance car”.
“This is achieved through the combination of active noise control-road, sound-insulating glass and reinforced door sealing.”
The GV60 Magma also has a dedicated digital interface, sound design and driving feedback system specifically designed to make the driving experience more immersive.
“Activating ‘Magma Mode’ transforms the instrument cluster into a three-circle layout, prominently displaying essential driving data, including motor and battery temperatures, speed and G-force,” the brand said.
“Additionally, the head-up display provides a simplified view of key information such as speed, regenerative braking levels and remaining boost time.
“The infotainment system also supports an array of Magma-exclusive high-performance driving features such as the virtual gear-shift system (VGS), drift mode, and high-performance battery control (HPBC).
“The VGS feature adjusts motor output, torque and regenerative braking to replicate the shifting sensations and driving dynamics of a high-performance internal combustion engine vehicle while simultaneously reproducing the sound of a high-revving engine to deliver an immersive and emotionally engaging driving experience. “When VGS and HPBC are engaged, the cluster also displays performance-oriented metrics – including a performance timer and pedal input levels – delivering key driving data in a clear and intuitive format.
Externally, the GV60 Magma is designed to emphasise the presence of “subtle, untapped power” which Genesis said “steers away from overtly ostentatious or aggressive styling”.
The front is wider and lower (by 20mm) than the standard GV60 to show a stable and confident stance, with a redesigned bumper with a three-hole structure, for enhanced airflow and cooling performance but also to identify the Magma model.
The side profile shows low and wide proportions with wide fenders and Magma-exclusive 21-inch forged wheels and 275mm tyres.
The side skirts feature three-hole details, mirroring the front design, and are integrated with the breather line to optimise airflow. Glossy black finishes on the window frames and exterior mouldings further enhance the streamlined aesthetic while minimising the use of chrome for a sleek and modern look.
At the back is a wing-type spoiler that is a visual element but also generates downforce, while the newly-designed rear bumper combines the body colour with black accents, and the lower diffuser structure has been engineered to enhance aerodynamic performance.
The interior combines premium materials for a sporty appearance, with seats, door trim and centre console in faux-suede Chamude highlighted by orange and grey stitching, quilting details and seat belts to further identify the Magma model.
Genesis parent Hyundai said that it is more than a concept, with the design study being Genesis’ “clearest expression yet of its commitment to its future high-performance capabilities”.
The car-brand has already stated the Magma GT would be developed into its halo model and would be the precursor to Hyundai’s Genesis entering the GT race class and reflected in the car’s mid-rear engine layout.
Genesis said that the Magma GT Concept “aligns closely with the performance roadmap announced at Hyundai Motor Company’s CEO Investor Day in New York in September”.
The event witnessed Genesis confirming plans to develop the model into a performance icon and its competition ambitions.
Genesis president and chief creative officer, Luc Donckerwolke, said: “The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability.”
“It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed – it is defined by balance. “This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless.
“The Magma GT doesn’t ask the driver to prove their skill; it enhances it. This is not simply a faster Genesis. It is the most complete expression of Genesis performance to date.”
